In some cases, there are special circumstances or conditions in which the Zoning Ordinance may be unduly restrictive or causes unique hardships. There is an appeal process for such cases. That appeal process is conducted by the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA), which consists of five appointed citizens and two alternates.
Please contact the Zoning Administrator with any questions or correspondence for the ZBA
If you need to initiate an appeal, the ZBA will hold a public hearing and decide whether or not to approve your request for a variance from the provisions of the ordinance. Upon request, the ZBA will also make interpretations of the ordinance and consider appeals for any administrative decision involving the ordinance.
Meetings:
Regular ZBA meetings are held the third Wednesday at 6:00 PM. Meetings are held at the Torch Lake Township Community Service Building.
