The Assessor is responsible for assessing both real and personal property within the township. The Assessor is also responsible for processing Property Transfer Affidavits and Principal Residence Exemption Affidavits.
The Assessor is also responsible for making a determination of value on each tax parcel in their unit every year. A mass appraisal system in which building values are based on a construction cost manual, and modified by sold properties in the neighborhood, is used to accomplish this task. The cost manuals that are used for these estimates of building values require an outside perimeter measurement of the buildings on the property. This mass appraisal system relies on property visits that accurately catalog the property’s land and building attributes (record card review).
- Homeowner’s Principal Residence Exemption Affidavit
- Request to Rescind Homeowner’s Principal Residence Exemption
- Property Transfer Affidavit
The assessing task requires the maintenance of records on each property in the township. The types of data maintained on assessment cards are building sketches & pictures, legal descriptions, square footage and years built.
- Request a copy of your Property Record Card
- Learn how your taxable value is calculated
- Learn how your tax bill is calculated
Land Division requests are the joint responsibility of the Assessor and Zoning Administrator.
