TO ENSURE TIMELY RESPONSES TO ANY INQUIRIES REALTED TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION, PLEASE SEND THEM TO THE ZONING ADMINISTRATOR AT ZONINGADMIN@TORCHLAKETOWNSHIP.ORG AND THEY WILL BE HANDLED APPROPRIATELY WITH THE CHAIRPERSON OF THE COMMITTEE. THANK YOU
Township Development is controlled largely by the Zoning Ordinance. The community is divided into different areas (referred to as zones), and the ordinance specifies which types of development can be constructed in each zone.
With the help of a professional planner, the Planning Commission drafts the ordinance and recommends amendments. The township Board makes all final decisions on drafts and amendments to the ordinance.
The ordinance first went into effect in 1983, and has had incurred many revisions since. Each revision to the ordinance is publicly debated and discussed by the Planning Commission, with public hearings held to give the community an opportunity for input. The public is both welcomed and encouraged to attend Planning Commission meetings.
Planning Commission members serve 3 year terms and are appointed by the Township Supervisor, with confirmation of the Township Board.
