Hope everyone is keeping warm. Don’t forget Valentines Day on February 14th. The January Board meeting was primarily focused on passing the resolutions associated with the salaries of the elected officials and adopting the pay rate schedule for 2026-2027 fiscal year for the balance of township employees. We also added a new probationary firefighter. There was also a meeting with the Nakwema team, and they indicated they will be bringing the bike trail down the east side of US 31. The Board had recommended the West side of the road, but that recommendation was not adopted.
Key item on the agenda is final review of the fiscal year 2026-2027 budget. As a reminder, the annual meeting of the Electors and Budget Public hearing will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026,at 6:00 PM.

JANUARY 2026 YTD PRELIMINARY FINANCIAL RESULTS FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2025-2026
REVENUE $1,662,352 Higher than prior year ($187,012) and below budget by ($60,902)
EXPENSES ($2,462,003) Higher than prior year ($413,934) and higher vs budget by ($449,325)
NET ($1,202,633) Loss is higher than the previous year ($226,922) and budget ($510,227) *
*The Unfavorable variance to budget of $510,227 was driven by the downpayment for the new fire truck pumper of $150,000 and we paid for our new ambulance costing $339,000. With this addition we have replace both of our old ambulances over the last couple of years and we should be set up for the next 20-25 years with these vehicles.
TOWNSHIP MEETINGS: PLEASE MONITOR THE WEBSITE FOR UPDATES
The Planning Commission will be meeting on February 11, 2026 at 7 PM. The ZBA has a case that will be heard on February 18 at 6 PM. Please monitor the website for any changes. The Regular TWP Board meeting will be held February 17, 2026, at 7 PM. All meetings will be live streamed and recorded.
