Welcome
to WELL . . . WE KNOW SPRING WILL ARRIVE THIS MONTH First, I want to congratulate Kathy Windiate, our Township Clerk, for managing the 9 days of early voting. A thank you also goes out to all the poll workers that supported that effort. This month we have the Annual Meeting of the Electors and the Township’s 2024-2025 Budget meeting on March 12, 2024, at the CSB starting at 6:00 PM. Copies of the proposed budget can be found on the website as well as hard copies are available at the CSB during normal business hours. Hard copies will be in the CSB foyer over the weekend as well. Highlights of the February Board meeting are as follows: We welcome Lorry Coats to the Planning Commission filling an existing vacancy; purchased a new Defibrillator for our primary ambulance; the South Fire Station is getting improvements with insulation being added to the walls and attic and a protective floor covering. In addition, approved several new equipment items that focus on providing increased safety measures for our fire personnel. Contracts approved were for the township attorney, Assessor and Ambulance director. We welcome Mary Merchant to the Clerk’s office to handle the invoicing process with the Clerk retaining oversight and signing responsibilities and training support by our Treasurer, Sharon Schultz. Finally, the Board approved a change to our Boat Launch ordinance prohibiting the launching of kayaks, stand up boards, canoes, or other non-motorized items. This change is for safety reasons as it is difficult to launch these items on the same ramp that is used for boats. OPEN POSITIONS: We have two alternate positions on our Board of Review team and anyone interested should contact me at my information at the bottom of this page. May is here and summer can’t be far off . . . .
This is coming out later than usual as it has been a very busy month so far. The board approved at the April Board meeting the 2023 road improvement plans and the key areas are as follows: Old Mission Estates gravel roads will now be paved sometime during the summer; the upper portion of Barnes road will be repaired and repaved; a section of Lore Rd will be fixed and repaved; and Stone Circle will be resurfaced with a limestone mixture that should allow that road to hold up better for the next few years.
As mentioned in my last letter, I had been approached by Central Lake Village to see if we would be interested in sharing the cost of an additional police officer. I had an additional discussion this past week. Based on input from the Central Lake Village attorney, the original idea was not going to meet the legal test necessary for our involvement. The attorney provided some alternatives which will be explored at out Board meeting on May 16th. They had received a grant to provide for an officer in the school but had not been successful with getting someone on a part-time basis. Since part of our Township is within the Central Lake School district, our Township has a vested interest in ensuring the students in the Central Lake School district are properly protected.
Here is the snapshot of the financial results in April is located below.
