In some cases, there are special circumstances or conditions in which the Zoning Ordinance may be unduly restrictive or causes unique hardships. There is an appeal process for such cases. That appeal process is conducted by the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA), which consists of five appointed citizens and two alternates.

Contact the Zoning Administrator to access to the ZBA - and also review chapter 20 of the Zoning Ordinance.

If you need to initiate an appeal, the ZBA will hold a public hearing and decide whether or not to approve your request for a variance from the provisions of the ordinance. Upon request, the ZBA will also make interpretations of the ordinance and consider appeals for any administrative decision involving the ordinance.

Meetings:

An annual meeting is held each second Wednesday of November at 6:00 pm. Meetings are held at the Torch Lake Township Community Service Building.
